ఈరోజు నేను నా ఉపద్యయురాలు తో జూ కి వెళ్లాను. నేను జూ కి నడిచాను. కవిత-గారు బస్సు లో వచ్చారు. జూ లో మేము జంతువులు ఇంక మనుశులు చూసాము. మొదటిగా మేము చిరుత పులి చూసాము. ఈ చిరుత పులి చాలా అందమైనది. ఆతరవాత మేము జేబ్రా ఇంక జింక చూసాము. నా ఇష్టమైన జంతువులు ఒరంగుతాన్. జూ లో మూడు ఒరంగుతన్లు ఉన్నాయి. ఒక ఒరంగుతాన్ పేరు బనీ. ఆమెకు మూపై ఏండ్లు. ఆమె అన్ని ఒరంగుతాన్ కంటే పెద్దది. ఒరంగుతాన్లు చాలా తెలివైన జంతువులు. ఇవి సుమత్ర ఇంక బొర్నెఒ నుండి వస్తాయి (ఒక సారి నేను నది మీద పడవ లో ఒరంగుతన్లు చూసేను).
తరవాత మేము ఏనుగు ఇంక పాండాలు చూసాను. ఏనుగు నాట్యం చేసింది. ఆమె వీపుపై మట్టి ఉంది. పాండా మొక్కలు తింటొండ. చాలా పిల్లలు వారి తల్లిత్రండ్రుల తో పాండా చూసారు. ఆక్కడ ఒక చిన్న అమ్మాయి నా వైపు చూసింది ఎందుకంటే నేను తెలుగు మాట్లాడాను. మేము గుఱ్ఱము ఇంక ఒక పులి చూసాము. పుల్లి వైపు తొమ్మిది సింహములు ఉన్నాయి. ఒక కుటుంబం ఉంది. పెద్ద సింహము కొండ మీద కూర్చుంది. అతని పిల్లలు కింద ఆడుతున్నాయి. ఓకే ఆడ సింహము ఒంటరిగా ఉంది. నాకు అన్ని జంతువులు ఇష్టం.
రేస్తోరంట్ లో
ఆతరవాత మేము భారత్ రేస్తోరంట్ కి వెళ్తాము. రేస్తోరంట్ పేరు ఇండీక్. ఇండీక్ లోపల చాలా అందమైన దేకోర్ ఉంటుంది. మేము కూర్చుంటాము ఇంక మేను చూస్తాము. మాకు కాయకురాలు ఇష్టం. కాబట్టి ఇవి ఆర్డర్ చేస్తాము. అన్ని చాలా రుచిగా ఉంటాయి. ఈక్కడ నా ఇష్టమైన భోజనం సూప్. ఇది ఎరుపు ఇంకా ఉప్పుగ ఉంటుంది. కవిత-గారు నా వైటర్ కి మాకు మసాల ఇష్టం చెప్తున్నారు. భోజనం కొంచం మసాలాగా కాని కారంగా ఉండదు. దేస్సేర్ట్ కోసం మేము కుల్ఫీ తింటాము. ఇది తిపు ఇంక రుచిగా ఉంటుంది. మధ్యానం భోజనం చాలా బాగుంటుంది. నా రోజు కూడా బాగుంది.
In this post I am speaking about my experience seeing the animals and observing their actions at the zoo. I also describe our lunch at the restaurant afterwards – what we ate, how it tasted, my favorite dish. I use the present tense (which in Telugu is used for recent past tense… don’t ask!) to describe what we just did at the zoo. I wrote the restaurant experience in the future tense to practice telling stories in Telugu (yes, Telugus use the future tense for telling stories… ay-yo!).
This was my first field trip so far in Telugu class. I really enjoyed putting some of the things I learned in class to good use – present continuous, future, habitual tenses, and all of that animal vocab I memorized watching videos for children in Telugu… Since my instructor, Kavita-gaaru, and I spoke in Telugu for most of the day, it was hard talking to people at the store and restaurant in English. At one point I think I said ‘Dhanya–thank you!’ Unfortunately, we didn’t run into any Telugus, but we did get a lot of very strange looks from passerby. At one point, a woman turned around and said to us both ‘Where are you from?’ I think that was the first time anyone has asked me that in America, thinking that I was perhaps not an American? It was great!
